I couldn’t resist stopping to take a couple of shots of this stunning pool of purple crocuses that I passed on an otherwise unremarkable grass verge.

It was a gloomy afternoon following a morning of rain, so the flowers were determinedly closed and looking a little the worse for wear, but the swathe of rich colour still stopped me in my tracks.

    • Yes, I have no idea. I wonder how many were originally planted, and whether it was guerilla gardening or official council planting which seems less likely…

  1. In Fleet there are two places that have banks of Crocuses like that – two of the Old Folks’ homes! They look absolutely spectacular at present. They are mostly purple ones too. I wonder why that is.

    • Lovely – purple is one of my favourite flower colours, so this splash of pure purple crocuses pleased me immensely! I’ll have to look out for the Fleet ones when we make it that way, if they are still out…
